An aromatherapy school will teach a modality of complementary therapy that uses herbs and plant oils (essential oils) to relax and heal your body. The oils are applied to the body through massage, but also the sense of smell plays its part in creating a positive change in your mood and illness. Aromatherapy and essential oils can help clients who are suffering from many different illnesses. A perfume makers discovery:

When first starting in aromatherapy school, students will probably hear the story about how this massage therapy was discovered. In the 1920’s, a French chemist who was working on new perfumes in his laboratory, accidentally set fire to his arm. He put his arm into some lavender oil to put the fire out.

The French chemist discovered that the lavender oil helped his arm to heal really fast and did not leave a scar. So the chemist spent the rest of his life dedicated to aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy schools teach students about the different types of essential oils and what illness they help to relieve. For instance If the patient is suffering from burns, an aromatherapy student will be taught how they should use lavender oil, and also the quantity and frequency to apply it.

Many aromatherapy schools believe that aromatherapy is a science and should only be practised in a professional manner by aromatherapy school graduates. Although other schools teach the student to open up to there intuition as well. Which is seen by some as being the more balanced way.

Some doctors disapprove of aromatherapy:

There are some doctors who do not approve of aromatherapy and the aromatherapy schools that teach it. They also say that all that an aromatherapy school teaches is the ability to reduce stress. They also state that there reasons are based on the lack of any real facts or figures.

Does aromatherapy only give stress relief:

Some doctors actually agree some patients may have been helped by an aromatherapy treatment, however, they are quick to state, only because aromatherapy helped to ease their stress. For sure, stress can help to create a number of illness’s and when stress is relieved, the illness is often relieved as well.

However, they also comment that aromatherapy is not as successful as traditional medicine when it comes to serious illness. This is the block aromatherapy experiences in its attempt to reach the public at large.

Whilst a lot of medical people do not agree with aromatherapy treatments, there are many people who teach this therapy who do, and there are figures that show lots of people are applying to be accepted by an aromatherapy school. In fact due to the increased popularity of aromatherapy, there are more schools opening in cities all over the world. If you have doubts about this therapy, going to an aromatherapy massage school will probably dispel them and open you up to its potential to help stressed and sick people.

To learn to use proper aromatherapy treatments it is imperative that you find yourself an affordable aromatherapy course. Many people on-line today are offering aromatherapy treatments that have known safety issues and can actually end up hurting your loved ones if you follow their aromatherapy treatment instructions.

What are some of the things you need to watch out for?

* People who take weekend workshops or train via their upline in an multi-level marketing company are not properly prepared to be teaching aromatherapy treatments safely and effectively.
* People who call themselves aromatherapists and refuse to dilute Essential Oils before putting on the clients skin in an aromatherapy treatment should not be doing this
* People who use undiluted essential oils on babies should be reported immediately to health professionals.

Many people claim that they have aromatherapy training when in fact they have not even taken a proper aromatherapy course prior to giving aromatherapy treatments. Many people are self taught or taught by their managers in a company that sells essential oils, but that is not enough to start using aromatherapy treatments on the public.

Although it is true that their is no governing body set up by the government to regulate Aromatherapy practioners there are organizations which keep watch over us to make sure that we are trained properly before we offer aromatherapy treatments.

The only way to train properly is to take an aromatherapy course. I know most aromatherapy courses are quite expensive and beyond the scope of spending budget of a lot of people but there are affordable aromatherapy courses around if you just look more closely.

Be sure that if you do find an affordable aromatherapy course that it is a good one. Find out what you will be learning in the aromatherapy course before you sign on the dotted line, so to speak. Make sure that you will receive some type of aromatherapy diploma that can further you along the road in your aromatherapy journey.

Aromatherapy courses usually come in two parts: Level 1 and Level II Some people refer to their aromatherapy courses as Aromatherapy 101 and Aromatherapy 102. There are guidelines that are set up by the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy which clearly states what should be included in any decent, recognizable Aromatherapy Course.

These are not little 6 Week Aromatherapy Courses or Weekend Aromatherapy Courses. No, you will need to learn much more than what the little courses offer if you wish to give safe and beneficial Aromatherapy Treatments.

Don’t be dismayed, now that you know that you need 2 Aromatherapy Courses. Perhaps you can only take a Level 1 Aromatherapy Course for now. Do it! Take the Aromatherapy II course a little down the road when you get a bit more money.

The important thing is that you learn to use Aromatherapy safely and effectively but at an affordable price so that you can use aromatherapy treatments that will benefit and not unintentionally harm those you love.

The term aromatherapy was first used in the 1920s by French chemist René Maurice Gattefossé. Gattefossé first discovered the potential healing powers of natural oils after catching his arm on fire one day in his lab. In his attempt to put out the fire, he thrust his arm into the nearest bin of liquid, which just happened to be lavender oil. The burn healed quickly without a scar.

Aromatherapy is commonly associated with alternative healing techniques. It is the process of using natural oils as a means to alter a person’s mood or health. There are three main branches of aromatherapy. The first is home aromatherapy, which is self-treatment with aromatherapy products. The second is clinical aromatherapy. Clinical aromatherapy is used as a pharmacological treatment in a clinical setting. The third branch is aromachology. Aromachology is the study of odors and their effects on the mind.

There are three common methods of aromatherapy use. The first is the use of oil as a scent. Commonly, aromatherapy oils used for this purpose are found in candle form. At the scent level, certain plant oils activate the limbic system and the emotional centers of the brain. Aromatherapy candles are believed to be beneficial in creating alternate emotions.

The second common method of aromatherapy use is as a topical treatment. When certain plant oils are applied to the skin, they activate thermal receptors and kill microbes and fungi. In many cases, natural oils are used to heal skin abrasions, just as Gattefossé used lavender oil to expedite the healing of his burn wounds.

The final common method of aromatherapy use is as an internal drug. For this purpose, natural oil medications must be prescribed. They are said to activate the immune system.

Aromatherapy, especially in the more developed countries of the world, is almost never used as the sole treatment for an ailment. Often, it is only used as a method of alternative medicine. However, many healthcare workers use aromatherapy techniques in combination with other more recognized treatments.

However, many individuals preach of the stress-relieving benefits of aromatherapy scents. In fact, aromatherapy is commonly used in spas as a method of relaxation. Skeptics argue that the benefits of aromatherapy treatments are supported with little scientific research.

Persons interested in using aromatherapy techniques as a means of stress reduction need to first understand what natural oils are effective in providing the emotional effect they desire. For example, honeysuckle oils are said to be relaxing and rejuvenating, perfect for stress reduction after a long week at work. Likewise, rose oils are said to create a romantic atmosphere.
